Here Abbie continues with her previous blog post describing how she returned to sport!
After the first month of rehab was done I could somewhat resume everyday life activities again. It’s a relief to get past the first couple of weeks which consist mainly of doing multiple exercises 5 times a day and cardio machines. I had to be pretty reliant on others doing things for me which wasn’t a nice feeling so it was good to get past this stage.
Movement wise I started doing gradual resistance training with bands to prepare for machine weights around the 3 month mark. Doing these movements the first time round I was pretty paranoid and every uncomfortable feeling would create a sense of doubt. The second time round I was really eager to get on top of things so I was very committed to doing all my exercises when told to (however, not going overboard as that can just do damage and slow you down). By putting in the hard work during the early days made such a difference in progressing down the track. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mentally I was much more resilient this time round as I had a better understanding of what needed to be done. I also had Callan which was a huge support and kept me on track through the times I was frustrated at my inability to do things. Having more direction and consistent guidance dramatically improved my rehab.
